How to choose your personal trainer for the most effective personal training

So you have finally made the decision that it’s time to really up your training and get into some personal training. That’s fantastic news! You are on your way to a healthier, fitter and happier human. So what the next step? Well to really get the best out of your personal training you need to choose a personal trainer who not only can get you the results you are after, but will ensure your personal training experience is fun and enjoyable. After all, exercise is hard enough; you need someone who is going to make the personal training fun.

So my suggestions when looking for personal training are:

• Depending on your budget you can look for personal training where the personal trainer is either straight out of college or someone who has been in the industry for 20 years. But the personal training expense will differ. If you decide you only have a limited budget, that’s ok. There are plenty of newly graduated personal trainers who really know what they are doing and are passionate about their careers and want to offer you the best personal training hour you have received. They are willing to work hard and go that extra mile. Or if you do have the expendable income you may decide going for someone experienced is for you. This personal training experience will be quite different. Your personal trainer will have an abundance of knowledge that they can share with you and some exercise routines you have never contemplated. So to sum up both personal training experiences could be as beneficial as each other.

• Personal training needs to be fun and that is why when looking for personal training you want your trainer to have a great personality. Preferably someone you can really have a repoire with and can have a laugh and joke during the personal training. So make sure you try out a few first before you decide. Personal trainers usually give the first session as a complimentary to make sure you are a fit and you enjoy the experience too.

• Personal training needs to deliver you the results you are looking for. This can be a tough one as results don’t come straight away. Usually you need at least 8 weeks for a short term goal. However you can ask to see any testimonials they may have or even before or after shots. Previous personal training clients can be used as a reference for you. Whichever way you go make sure you feel confident in your personal training.

• Availability is another factor when it comes to choosing a personal trainer. Depending on your work schedule you may need your personal trainer first thing in the morning, lunch time or late at night. You’re going to need to make sure your personal trainer has these time slots and is willing to give you your personal training at these times for the long term (if you decide to stay with them).

• And last but not least I have decided to throw in there accountability. Although this has nothing to do with your personal trainer, you need to make sure that you are also accountable for your actions so that your personal training is most effective. When you leave your personal trainer you are on your own so you need to make wise decisions such as the food you eat, the training you are going to be doing on other days etc. If you are able to choose healthier and wholesome foods and keep active each day, your personal training experience is going to be twice as fun and twice as effective!
