Losing those last few kilos

The most common response I receive when asking my potential clients why they need to start training? I want to lose 2 or 3 kilos. Losing the last couple and reaching that magic number can be super hard simply because the body doesn’t like being lean. What the?! This means we need to resort to various tricks to help the fat burn.

Commit and follow through

Unfortunately that extra wine at night or that row of chocolate can really hinder that weight/fat loss. You really need a good 6 days of strict eating to adequately deplete those fuel stored, effectively burn fat and see that weight drop. (There will probably be a water weight drop too).

Get organized

Plan, plan and plan some more! Each week set aside some time to plan all of your week day meals and snacks and then make some time to visit the supermarket to stock up. People who are organized are less likely to reach for the takeaway meal and reach for their pre packed yummy and healthy meal. Also have some 2 minute brown rice and sweet potato handy to microwave up at short notice and add a can of tuna with a little olive oil. This is my go to snack when I am having a super busy day.

Bump up the protein at breakfast

Adequate protein at breakfast is essential to ensure you start your day well and doesn’t land slide down into sugar laden foods to curb that ferocious hunger. Try a couple of eggs, a scoop of your favourite protein in your smoothie or some thick natural yogurt on your oats.

Eat more veggies

If I am still hungry after a meal, I reach for extra vegetables. Or try adding more to my protein eg capsicum, mushrooms, spinach to my omelet. Load up your plate with a massive green salad with your steak at dinner or bake an assortment of coloured veg to go with your lamb. 2-3 cups a day is perfect.

Watch those liquid calories

The body does not compensate well when we consume liquid calories. This means we don’t adjust our food intake to compensate for the liquid calories. Take a break from your daily alcohol and coffee and go for a lighter, low cal wine and a long black with a dash of milk.

Increase your working out

Ensuring you are shocking your body with different training sessions is going to assist in burning excess fat stores. Try boxing, HIIT sessions, Strength and sprints to keep it varied and effective.
