What to do after a weekend of bingeing

A weekend of bingeing. We have all been there. Woken up Monday morning feeling guilty, ashamed, depressed, sluggish because you went out and splurged or binged at a friends wedding, birthday etc etc. So what are the best things you can do for your mind and body?

1. Forgive yourself.

Repeat to yourself. It is going to be ok. It is going to be ok. You haven’t set yourself back; you aren’t going to do any long lasting damage. As long as you forgive yourself and move on that is. If we stay in a negative mindset and berate ourselves, we are going to continue to perpetuate this if it is an issue. Mindset is one of the biggest things that you can work on if you do have a binge problem. Creating a more positive one, happier one will mean you can forgive yourself quicker + will begin to lessen the chance of the binge. After all bingeing is an emotional response or emotional eating.

2. Don’t skip meals

Skipping meals will actually do the exact opposite to what you might want and that is to store fat. It will thrown our hormones out of wack and you will lay down fat with the body thinking there is a famine coming!

3. Drink water

Drinking water will help you recover from dehydration if sugar and drinking has been involved and detoxify and get rid of all the bad stuff. It will lessen bloating as well which lets face it, isn’t the most attractive thing. Keeping the water intake up will also increase energy, lessen hangovers and keep you feeling fuller so you don’t snack the next day.

4. Breakfast

Make sure you don’t skip this meal. It is the one that sets you up for day of good eating and will get your metabolism kicking and hormones nice and regulated. Try some protein with veg (fiber). E.g. a couple of poached eggs, spinach, eggs and asparagus. Yum.

5. Exercise!

I know you may not want to hear this one but exercise is the best thing for mind and body. It will help the good hormones and endorphins flow meaning you will feel more positive and of course the longer you leave it, the harder it is to get back into it. Even a fast power walk for 45 minutes is enough to see the effects. And often this creates a nice flow on effect where you want to do more exercise.

6. Add fibre into the mix

When you’ve had a weekend full of unhealthy eating, I recommend incorporating as much fibre into your meals as possible. Fruits, vegetables, and complex carbs such as sweet potato, brown rice and quinoa are great. These foods can help you get your digestion back on track and help keep you full in-between meals. Add apiece of protein to the mix and you have a great meal ready to go!I hope these quick and easy tips have helped girls, remember never beat yourself up for having an ‘indulgent’ weekend. This is part of life and what’s life if you can’t enjoy it! Just remember to take care of your body and it will reward you!
